4IC = 4 Item Challenge

Well, time to get the 4 Item Challenge (4IC). The aim is to draw 4 items in one drawing. I had to request item changes (I could not draw a sphinx nor a telescope). The items were a dragonfly, a chubby seal, a lemon with a mustache and a top hat, and a pair of scissors. Note the black hair was unintentional. Was meant to just be shading but pen moved too far and eyebrows disappeared. WIP below. Read a guide by Doodlez-Freaky for cleaning. Does make it look better. I was tempted to draw another person with the scissors, but it wouldn’t link well. It’s all down to the items chosen. Stayed up. Insomnia. 10:24am right now. 0.5HB, felt tip and pilot razor point.

Guy is getting the cutes from the seal. But the seal is looking at the dragonfly. Dragonfly doesn’t noticed ‘cos he’s listening to the beats. The lemon is worried and the scissors cut a hear by itself.

I did it again. Report is saddened.

Well, it is really late at night. Initially doodling for 2 hours led to disappointment so I had to draw this to feel better. Worth it. Confidence in drawing is back. However. I didn’t do a speck of report today.

Unintentional Erza influence. The black eye-hands are back (refer to the Petra drawing). Let’s call her Inuko. She got cursed (most likely by Petra) and the mark on her right hand is flaring up again with evil spirits.

A little bit of shading and using felt-tip and a razor point does make it better. Hopefully from here I’ll be moving away from all pencil. Hands keep getting covered in grey smudges.

I was doing my report but I ended up sketching…

I sat down to work around 9pm. Started work at midnight. A small mistake in my diagrams for my progress report ended up like this. Slightly different style. I’m not particularly angry at the moment, but I guess sketch says otherwise. My handwriting makes me sad. Now I need to keep working. *Sad face*.

Lost for words

I got a wall post from a friend from uni asking if I knew what had happened to another student. I asked. She said others were saying she had died. At first I thought it was a horrendous rumour being spread. I couldn’t trust second-hand news. When I checked my uni e-mail I found this:

We in Civil Engineering are very sad to have to tell you of the tragic death of one of our Level 3 students, Jennifer Truong, who has died after an accident in London. She was a popular, hard working and successful student and will be missed by all us in Civil Engineering as well as those who knew her in the wider University community. Our thoughts go out to her family and friends at this difficult time. If anyone, particularly close friends of Jennifer’s would find it helpful to talk to someone please do not hesitate to contact an appropriate member of staff or the Wellbeing Centre.

I had no words after reading the first time. It’s so sudden, to have a person you know of to suddenly disappear. I’m not sure how feel right now, at 2:30am in HK. I wasn’t a close friend but I did see her often in lectures over the two years. She left a very deep impression into my memory. A kind person, who was a bit oblivious at times, but very hardworking and loving to others. Fondly loved apples. Her knitted scarves. Her patting your back when you are upset. Though there were times we did not get along, and though we were not close friends, she was brilliant in her own way. Capable of achieving so much. Her birthday passed before Easter and will never be able to finish her degree. Her closest friends and family. Must be too much to believe. A sudden accident.

Cherish and love those that are close to you. They can leave at any time.

RIP Jen Truong. We won’t forget.

Gifting from Hong Kong

Part two of the HK drawings. First two were a birthday gift (line then pencils) with Miku, Nano and RD when I was living in Yuen Long with host family (all the others were drawn in Yaumatei). Next was a response to a challenge and drew her based on a photo. Third was another birthday gift with Pinkie Pie chubbie. Last one is a drawing of my cousin, as a seriously belated birthday gift, based on various photos put together into one. I wish I spent more time on shading like my older stuff, but it was like really late at night.

I will be drawing more original stuff soon. I just need the time to sit down by the table instead of the floor with the laptop browsing Tumblr. Or vegging on the sofa after work watching movies or a detective series.

It’s been a while hasn’t it

It has been a long while since I last posted. I have been in Hong Kong for an industrial placement as part of my sandwich course. Lived in three places: two with host families and one alone (currently). As my inspiration tends to come late at night, it hasn’t always been convenient for me to sit down and create. I’ve managed a few pieces, mainly gifts and continually doodling cats at work. I’ll spread out the posts. None of them scanned, only photos. Here’s part one.

I drew this when at the first host family in Shatin. I remember staying up very late. Was pleased that the feeling was able to come out in the style. Shading is fun. When I look back, this is really the only more proper drawing I have done in HK. Slight Panda Hero inspiration. She’s wearing a baggy zipper top (not fat or pregnant as some others have misinterpreted) and just bumped or accidentally brushed against someone. Hence the speech bubble. Whether I wrote the right thing is another issue (japanese from memory at 3 or 4 or 5am). Balloons suggested by a friend I had on chat while drawing. It’s better to draw when not alone.

I was going to draw in a mahou shoujo style…

It’s strange when you start off with seeing in your mind what you want to draw or what inspires you to draw at that moment, but end up drawing something completely different. This was meant to be a young cheery girl, puffy hat, with stars in a pink and blue theme, with a star wand but I ended up drawing the opposite.

State of mind clearly affects my drawings once the pencil hits the paper. Slightly inspired by FMA:B (which is a great series to watch). Shading is fun. Let’s call her Petra. 

Finished it in time for 1/1/2011

Happy New Year 2011! Though it’s a new year, it does not have to be a new beginning, just be sure to make it your’s - dare more, live more, be more! And don’t forget Chinese New Year on February 3rd, Year of the Rabbit!

New Year drawing is the first one. I took a long time being distracted whilst bordering with biro. Under that is just a doodle, inspired by Katie Tiedrich’s style. Then a messy desk followed by slow work in progress photos.

Like one hour until New Year 2011

As usual I am drawing for New Year again. For now have some sketches and doodles. The first one being the rough sketch for the New Year drawing - work in progress. Then some little doodles followed by a sketch which I was going to base a painting on, which has failed. The last two are doodles for a potential comic. Ferri and Penny. Not sure if it’s just going to stay an idea like all my other projects.
